About StateTakeHome

StateTakeHome answers one question with unusual rigor: “how much of my pay do I actually keep?” We build free take-home pay, paycheck and tax calculators for all 50 US states and DC, for every Canadian province (in English and French), and in Spanish for the US Hispanic workforce — more than 550 pages, each one computed by the same verified engine.

Why we exist

Most paycheck calculators run on stale data. When we audited the leading tools in 2026, several still used prior-year Social Security wage bases, outdated California SDI rules, or state brackets that had since been amended by legislation. Payroll math is unforgiving: a single stale rate quietly skews every result. So we made data freshness the entire product — every rate is pulled from the official source (IRS, SSA, each state's Department of Revenue, CRA), labeled with its tax-year vintage, and re-verified when the source changes.

We were also first to model the OBBBA Schedule 1-A deductions (No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, the senior and car-loan deductions) directly inside a paycheck calculator — with the real per-return caps and phase-outs.

Who is behind it

StateTakeHome is built and maintained by the StateTakeHome Data & Research Team— an independent team of data analysts specialized in tax-code research and market data. We are deliberately honest about what we are: a data house, not a tax advisory. We don't claim credentials we don't hold, and our methodology documents every source we rely on.
