GST/HST Calculator (Canada, 2026)

Direct answer

Direct answer: GST is 5% everywhere in Canada. On top, HST provinces apply a single combined rate — Ontario 13%, Nova Scotia 14%, and New Brunswick, Newfoundland and PEI 15%. British Columbia (12%), Saskatchewan (11%) and Manitoba (12%) add a separate PST, while Quebec adds 9.975% QST for a combined 14.975%. Alberta and the territories charge only the 5% GST. Enter a price and province above to add or remove the tax, including reverse mode.

What is the GST/HST rate in Ontario?

Ontario charges 13% HST (5% federal GST + 8% provincial). The calculator adds it to, or removes it from, any price instantly.

Which provinces use HST vs GST + PST?

HST (one combined tax): ON 13%, NS 14%, NB/NL/PE 15%. GST + separate provincial tax: BC 12%, SK 11%, MB 12%, QC 14.975%. GST only (5%): AB, NT, NU, YT.

How do I remove GST/HST from a total?

Divide the tax-included total by 1 plus the combined rate — for example divide by 1.13 in Ontario or 1.14975 in Quebec. Use the reverse mode above.

What is the Quebec sales tax rate in 2026?

Quebec charges 5% GST plus 9.975% QST, for a combined 14.975% on the price before tax. Both apply to the selling price, not compounded.

How is GST/HST calculated in Canada?

To add sales tax, multiply the price before tax by your province's combined rate. The calculator does it in one step and also runs in reverse, extracting the tax from a tax-included total.

  1. Take the price before tax (for example $100).
  2. Find your province's combined rate (Ontario 13%).
  3. Multiply: $100 × 1.13 = $113.00 total.
  4. To reverse it, divide the total by 1.13 to get the pre-tax price.

What are the 2026 sales tax rates by province?

The table shows the 2026 GST/HST and any separate provincial sales tax. Nova Scotia's HST decreased to 14% on April 1, 2025.

What is the difference between GST, HST, PST and QST?

GST is the 5% federal Goods and Services Tax. In HST provinces, the federal and provincial taxes are harmonized into one Harmonized Sales Tax administered by the CRA. In British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, a separate Provincial Sales Tax (PST, called RST in Manitoba) applies alongside the GST. Quebec applies its own Quebec Sales Tax (QST) of 9.975%, collected by Revenu Québec.

How do you reverse-calculate the tax from a total?

If you only know the tax-included total, divide it by one plus the combined rate. A $113.00 total in Ontario divided by 1.13 gives $100.00 before tax and $13.00 of HST. The reverse mode above does this for any province, which is handy for expense reports and invoices that show only the final amount.

Do you charge tax based on the buyer or the seller?

For most goods, the rate is set by the place of supply — generally where the customer takes delivery. A business in British Columbia shipping to Ontario charges 13% Ontario HST, not BC tax. The calculator lets you pick the destination province so the rate matches the place of supply.
